We are making some progress on the new build. Local friend James Bostick has the duty of building this for me.

Edit: now that I think about it, it's actually a 528 as it's a .060 overbore, not .030, just started with the 521" kit.

Dove A block .060 over ( aftermarket 4 bolt kit, block from Paul Kane)
521" FRPP kit 4.30" stoke, Eagle rods, replaced SRP pistons with JE's to work with A-460 heads
'93 A-460 heads 2.3 intake heads flow 420 cfm at .750
Schneider solid roller: @ .050" 276-284 ( adv. 306-312) lobe lift .430int - .435ex, lobe sep 112
gross lift .744int .752 ex
Plan on running a single 4 and TR when on the dyno
Pump gas build to run 11:1 compression.
Hoping for 600hp+ ;)

Hopefully will have some dyno results by April:

Not sure if the Danny Bee will stay on or not, figured we could advance and retard the cam on the dyno to see what we get. Belt drive just might end up on a different project.

Stroker kit and Danny Bee from Lem Evans.

got a couple part back: old style TFS "low rise" Ceramic coated by Embee Performance

Old style T/R re-polished:

I need to get a set of valve covers and we should be ready for the dyno.

well got most of what I wanted done accomplished today. Exceeded my goal of 825hp with the single carb. Had a stupid problem with the TR system so didn't get to run it today. Probably go back sometime in July and play for the day.

After we figured out the tunnel ram wasn't going to work we decided to put the single back on and do some more pulls. Dropped the 20/50 VR-1 oil and put in some Mobil 1 10/30 and then swapped out the 1,200 Domi and put on a 950HP to see what would happen. I'll post some pics of the charts now, if I have time tomorrow I'll scan a few and post them.

We ended up at 11.25:1 compression, started with 28* timing, went to 30 then 32* and kept it at 32* with the 91 octane. Made 13 pulls in all.

Here are some of the results:

comparison pulls of 1,200 vs 950 ultra HP carb:

950HP made peak trq of 685 lbs ft at 5,100 vs Dominator of 700 lbs ft peak at 5,100
the 950 made 803 at 6,700 for max hp vs 843 at 6,800 for the 1,200.

the 1,200 was pulling 1.8 " vac at 6,800 the 950 was pulling 2.5" at 6,800.

the Mobil 1 10/30 was worth 10 hp over the 20/50 VR-1 and 10 lbs ft at 5,100

I'll post some more info later. hopefully I can get my cell phone video posted.

Excellent test G-Code!!....1.8 inches of vacuum with the 1200 Dommy??....wow!! theres more left in her!!
Other than using a TR, it would be sweet to see a back to back comparison of your 1200 Dommy, vs. a SV-1 carb (if you had one to use, that is!!).

Interesting about the difference in power numbers by switching oils.

.

at the cost of 6 lbs of oil psi in this case. the 20/50 was running 61-62 psi from 5,800-6,800
the 10-30 was 55psi from 4,800- 7,000. I was pulling oil psi off the back of the engine so it should have been getting 65 psi at the crank, or so I've been told. I think I'm going to mount a second gauge in the boat to take a reading at the port at the fuel pump boss and see what it is.

In the past I've swapped Mobil 1 20/50 for conventional 20/50 a few times and have seen as little at 8 hp and the max of 14 hp. 20/50 for 20/50 the extra power was when the oil temp was at or above 180*

yes you were pretty close.

It was built with the Danny Bee so we could move the cam around, thought about advancing it 2-4* to see what would happen but it was making the power right where I wanted it so we left it alone. It would be interesting to see what the trq would do if advanced 4*.

best pass:

T/R:

Now that I'm going to go back to run the tunnel ram, I'm thinking of running an A/B test

Anyone with any experience running an engine this size with both styles of T/R ?

Hey Lem,

I ran it with my old "low rise" TFS single with it pulling 1.8" vac I wonder what my new style high rise single that's on the 565 would be worth on this engine?

I'm thinking it could break 860 with a single 4 on pump gas....... ?

I've dynoed two engines where both the 1 x 4 manifolds were backed to backed and both times the new/bigger manifold was better at and above 6,000 rpm. One was a 557" [4.440" x 4.50"] the other was 554" [4.530" x 4.300"].

A carb that will get to ~.5" hg would net a gain also.
