One of my doner cars was a 1976 mercury Marquis with a 460. It had the blue grommet, and it looked like the original, so you might try giving that car description and see what they give you.
I got one of those 1000yd stares and he said. "without an application I can't look it up". I started throwing random Fords at him and he asked what I really had. I said a 70 Fairlane. Guy types in 70 Fairlane and tells me "we're out" I tried to explain why I was telling him 79 Lincoln 460 etc but it was no good.
At that point I said go find the section on the shelf and open a few boxes.
He never found anything at all. I waited till he had about 17 people in line and walked out.
I bet if I said its for high altitude he would have got a taller ladder.
 sounds like you need to go to the napa here... most of the people there actually know what theyre doing
actually i think i have a spare out in the garage... dont know how much shipping is though.
Blue was 49 state
Red was CA emissions
Yellow had the retard function in it
There's a white, brown and green as well,
Edit:
Found this on a Pantera mailing list
""Red - Duraspark I (California cars 1977, California 302 V8 only, 1978-1979)
higher output, considered the module to use back in the '70s and '80s. Does
not employ a balast resistor. Senses current flow through the coil & adjusts
dwell for maximum spark intensity.
Blue - Duraspark II (49 state 1977, 50 state 1978 and later)
Yellow - Duraspark II with "dual mode" (except 1981)
White - Duraspark II with "cranking retard"
Brown - Duraspark III and other EEC controlled systems
Yellow - universal ignition module (1981)
Green - early solid state ignition (pre-1977) similar to Duraspark II, but
never popular for retrofitting, probably because the Duraspark I was
superior.

So is there a box that would work better than the "blue" that I am currently using? Sorry to hijack, but I had to ask. I usually always carry a spare behind the seat in all my trucks, so If I am somewhere and it takes a crap I got it, but I have never had to use it. My 1978 ford f-250 with a 351m had a blue module. I know I don't really care for the parts store guys. They must think I have about 50 vehicles, cause every time I go in there I have to give them a different application so they can look up what I really need.
