460 stroker?

so im going to start building a 460 for a car I dont have yet. but im looking for a 500hp motor that i will eventually put a blower on. I want to be able to drive it on the street and to the track. i have looked through all the sticky threads and they just tell how to get a 460 to a certain hp. if i stroke it what will i need to do to get to 500hp? and what would be a good kit for a blower?

This is easy to do and stroking is not needed to go 500hp. It may be less costly to make the goals with a stroked motor especially when changing pistons. The most common stroke package is done with a 4.3 crank. Check out the engine build section for some ideas. If you can make an easy 700 hp on pump gas why supercharge it?

If you only want 500hp there's no need for a blower, and if you plan to add a blower there's no need for a stroker kit because blowers essentially add displacement.

In my opinion, if you want to run blown gasoline with pump gas octane numbers, you cannot easily get 500 hp from a naturally aspirated 0.030" overbore 460 because the compression ratio will initially be set very low in anticipation of the blower installation down the road. If you must try to get "two engines out of one," then I would suggest devising a blower engine combo that gives you about 8.5:1 with large chamber heads such as 95cc D3VE's or 95cc Edelbrocks, and then building that engine with a set of ported 74cc D0VE heads which will get you closer to 10:1 naturally aspirated. Then, when it's time to install the blower, you would also do a head swap (to the 95cc head) at the same time and which would lower compression ratio for the blower.

Or perhaps you could build a low compression stroker engine such as a 4.14" stroke 501 with 32cc dished pistons and 95cc heads, which would give you an 8.5:1 engine combo. Crutch the static compression ratio by advancing the cam a few degrees so as to increase dynamic compression ratio while running naturally aspirated, then retard the cam back when the blower goes on. The natrually aspirated version of this 501 might not have 500 hp, but torque numbers would be good enough to make the car plenty fun to drive.

If it were me, I'd build two different engines (one NA and one for the blower).

What kind of blower...?

A positive displacement blower and an NA type engine are built almost completely different from the ground up.

ok i didnt know that they were built differently. thanks for all the great info guys. I dont only want 500hp. I want 500hp until the i save up for the blower. I just want something fun to drive around town and the track until i can afford the blower. I dont know what kind of blower i want yet. Gotta do some research on that to

Any one of the common blocks will hold your N/A horsepower needs.......if your gonna place a blower on it later. .I'd try and search for a four bolt block...pretty sure PAUL KANE can hook you up with that....not sayimg the 2 bolt won't hold it...they can hold a good amount..just the 4 bolt is insurance on forced induction.....you can easily make 500 hp out of a 460...but by the time you invest money into your bottom end "460" spec.......I'd spend the couple hundred more and stroke it....
