rules in my part of the country are changing and they wanna eliminate glass windsheilds for safety reasons for the some what fast guys. What do you think is a better solution pexi or lexan? I run mud races, bogs and the occasional sand drag so kinda wanting something that wont scratch so easy but still be safe if possible

Any sanctioning body that even has a hint of having it's sh*t together wouldn't even consider letting anyone run Plex as a windscreen. And if they did....well I think that I'd want to run some where else. Changing from glass for safety reasons?? Are the windshields popping out and hurting people? That's about the only way that they can cause a 'safety' issue.

I dont know what their reason is for taking glass out I just do what they say. A couple other safety parts theyve added are u-joint cages and haramonic balancer shields anyone use these or know where to get some pics would be helpfull if its something I can build myself

The SFI approved type of balancers don't need a guard. The outside of them is one piece and can't come off. Only stock 2 piece balancers can have the outer ring come off, I've seen it happen quite often. I've never heard of a u-joint cage. Are they talking about a drive shaft loop?

....they don't hold a Snipe hunt before the race do they?

U-Joint cage?? Really?? I've never heard of that (but then there is a lot I haven't heard of). That sounds crazy to me.

Do the fourm a favor and ask about whey they consider the stock windshields unsafe please. This puzzles me. I thought the only reason to go to Lexan windows was simply to save weight in race cars.

Do a lot of people break windshields racing where you race? I could maybe see getting showered with the little shards hazardous but the stock windshields do a very good job of keeping large objects from coming through the windshield.

Hard to make out in the pic, but the last loop right in front of the center chunk is the u-joint shield. From there, my driveshaft loop "cage is attached and there is another loop at the top u-joint. Same setup on my front.

It mounts simlar to the way the monster truck loop cages and u-joint shields attach. From Partick Chassis catalog:

I see. Thank you. :) I don't know about anyone else but every time I've seen a u joint break there weren't any pieces that come off of it, the cross just breaks. I'm not saying that it can't, I've just never experienced it. Now drive line retainers.....that's a whole different story.

The only thing I've found that plexi is good for is mixing body putty on.
