Posting a new thread with better pics...

This is getting the 528 out of my truck with some updates to the engine. Gonna be a small tire stock suspension deal hoping to get in the 8.60 index in GDRA and Byron Dragways Midwest Index Shootout.

FINALLY got over and got the coil over shocks mounted and got the center section installed into the rearend.

Got a little surface rust on the axle flanges but got it taken care of the surface rust on the floors will be wire wheeled off in the springs and DP90'ed

I just put a polishing wheel on my die grinder and took care of the rust, then hit it with that clear wheel paint. Been sitting for a long time and still looks good.

I did the same with my Strange center section Buffed up the bare cast, then cleared it.

I will probably use a combination of both. I have a 4" wire wheel and wire cup for my angle grinder and also the buffing pads for my die grinder. I have a little welding to finish up under the car so I want to get that finished then get the whole underneath looking good. I am not gonna detail it but still want it nice and clean.

I wanted to get the steel k-member spacers replaced with the aluminum ones yesterday but the darned universal shock mounts from Jegs needed some massaging and that ate up the time I had to make them. I am also gonna pull the quarter windows to make a template for lexan replacements and have to make a template for the rear window as well.

Looks good Eric!

Does your year Mustang need battle box reinforcements like mine did? Or does your year even have battle boxes? I'm assuming it does. I saw where the upper control arm mounted to the body and with all of the HP you are going to be laying down the connection to the body looked a little flimsy to me. Maybe I'm missing something (because you know... that has never happened before) so I just thought I would ask. I'm not familiar with your year Mustang at all. But I did rent one once in El Paso Texas! :)

I have 6x6 plates welded and bolted to the upper control brackets from the inside and 1 5/8 tubes from them to the main hoop. My torque boxes are completely welded also.

I just made my own stuff but similar to the foxbody stuff.

Cool. Mine are welded and bolted from inside the car as well. But I also have a piece that is welded and bolted from the bottom side for the upper control arm. I didn't see that on yours so I thought I would ask.

It looks really nice. And nice job on the aluminium spacers. I made my own set of aluminium K-member spacers as well.

Now... When you get done with yours will you come finish mine? UUGGHH!!!

Car will be going to the chassis shop in a few days to move the lower control arm brackets in 3", get an ARB installed, and a parachute mount built and installed. Spare tire well will be getting cut out as well.

May narrow the rearend another inch per side and do the mini-tub while it's there if I can get some mock up tires to check clearance.

Thanks for the offer but I already had a custom rearend built but it is stock length, the 29.5x10.5 M/T have a bit wider section than the 28x10.5 and I want the outside of the tires in the same spot and I already have the maximum backspacing I can get on my 15x10" Pro-Stars so just gonna cut the rearend down a bit more and do a mini-tub.

I am working part time at a chassis shop so I can build anything I need.

We are developing a few options right now for Mustangs. Will have a brand new stamped housing with adjustable upper and lower control brackets, and also a fabbed 9" Outlaw housing with similar bracket system and back brace with any length available.

Awesome, I just did the Mini Tub route. But without benefit of a chasis shop, good on ya! Its fun!

Thanks for the compliments guys. My wife bought me new rear tires as a Anniversary/Birthday/Christmas gift.

Looks like it will be a radial car! Car has still not made it to the chassis shop as some customers have not come to pick up their cars.

1980 is the last year for the Pinto/Mercury bobcat. They where replaced with the Escort in '81 Two years shared the grill assy-1979/80 with square headlights. Chrome grill/headlight bucket trim-rings where 1979 production and the blacked out grill/headlight bucket trim-rings where 1980's

I am not at all sure why the Pinto gets all of the hate/laughs etc. The effects of the G.M. smear campaign of the 1970's are still with us i think. Its a shame that many people repeat that crap. Especially Ford guys..

I've had an example of every year of Pinto. They where all solid cars and where reliable during my ownership.

Sadly, too many of the Pintos in my area have been gutted for "Fever five" racing or just scrapped. Still far more survive than vegas....

Got front clip all back together on the Bobcat today. Will probably be getting a turbo 2.3 and srod 4speed installed. Also scored a 3.00 open 8" for free.

But back on topic! ;)

I picked up an Explorer rear to steal the disc brakes off from for the Mustang. Got the caliper mounting brackets and calipers all cleaned up today and salvaged the complete brakeline setup from the rearend. Rotors are rusted badly so getting a new set then install everything.

Will be getting the 315's mounted tomorrow or Monday and doing mock up to check what all needs to be modified to make them fit this coming week.

Ignition box, tranny, and fuel system is all that is left after this coming week.

Been a long time since I made an update. So figured I would catch this thread up. I cleaned up the factory front brakes and bought an Explorer rearend to steal the disc brakes off from.
