460 Fox Budget Steez

Budget build after 15 year break from racing. So why not do a 460 fox with some spray, right?

My goal is to build a 10 sec. 460 Fox for a relatively dirt cheap budget (around $5500)...wish me luck!


Here she is. Picked up on Clist for $500 delivered without seeing the car! Was pleased to find the 9 inch rear end under the rust free car when it showed up.




Cleaned up the engine bay a little with some rustoleum I had at the shop. Still a few more things to get rid of





Scored a 8 pt. roll cage. My buddy installed it and some square tubing sub frames...



All done!




Picked up some draglites on the cheap. Couldn't pass that up and this thing is looking pretty good cleaned up!


(Scored the low head rest seats I wanted too)

Seems like a good starting point

CAR TOTAL $1080

That leaves $4420 for build, this might be do-able!

I guess it helps if you add photos of the most important part! Got the shortblock and heads back from machine shop. Moving along...



The C6 is one i picked up on a deal that was said to be "mildly built for street/strip" I'm gonna change the fluid and seals and slap it in for a go

D3VE's?

If not, be careful with those pistons as they are intended for the large chambers.

I ended up machining off the domes on mine as i am running a 466 with D2OE's.

Not bad.

It should be a fast car :)

Hope that you did some intake side port work as well, as the D3VE's could use it.

Yes sir, intake as well, some bigger valves, matched up springs. They came out real nice. I did my research and found the "BBF guy" here in town. Ben building 460's for decades. Super knowledgeable and has been walking me thru the build. Dude's a wizard!!! I need to put some better pics up, they look slick.

Struts and gasket set is on the way, need a nice oil pan to come my way soon...anybody?

Thanks! Your build looks very nice. Nothing fancy going on over here, just a big motor in a little car lol. I'm hoping it all just comes together. Having fun along the way getting back into racing. It will be done by spring.

...Not much to report. Haven't had time to work on the car lately, but I have been picking up some parts as I come across them. Check out the before and after pics of the valve covers I picked up for $25! Scored a sumped tank, fuel pump, MSD dist. Also got gaskets, 90/10s in the mail so plenty of work to do..hope I can find the time to get back at it soon. Still on budget!




My buddy sand blasted and powder coated them for me. They came out really nice!

Haven't had much time to work on the car been busy with moving my business. Finally all settled in, and excited to get back at this project this weekend. Been collecting parts and this is the set-up I ended up with:

.30 over D1VE
TRW 2443 dome top pistons
D3 heads with mild port, bowls worked, large stainless valves
Comp Cl34-250-4 cam / lifter / springs
Eldebrock Torker II intake
Moroso Drag pan

Car has a 9" with 4:10 gear, 4cyl springs, 90/10s, 6pt cage connected sub-frames, stripped out all the sound deadeners but didn't cut anything kept the stock interior look minus back seat.


Still need just a couple things...

Going to be running a 850 Double Pumper- I like the QuickFuels

C6 is at transmission shop getting checked out / freshened up- I rolled the dice on a deal on a "mild street/strip C6" 2500 stahl on c-list. We'll see how that works out!

Going to have my buddy who is a fabricating wizard make me some adjustable upper & lowers to bolt up to the 9" This will be a stock suspension small tire car-hopefully, as long as it sticks. It's gonna be a tire burner but I plan to leave off the brake at idle and spray it a little on the long end.

I will post some new pics this weekend after I get the CC plates and 90/10s installed and the car is back on the ground. These 4cyl springs are a PITA!!! Next weekend if all goes well- engine assembly!!!


Pretty cool for my first build since I was a teen in the late 90's. Re-learning as I go...

Well I didn't get the front end back together today...BUT here's the story--my buddy came by the garage today and asked me to go look at a car with him and the car was too race for his liking- gutted coupe w/ a 10 pt. He only wanted the 6in. cowl hood and 4 eye bumper SO I went halfsies on the car with him and scored the following goodies!!!

UPR Tubular K-member
UPR Tubular A-arms
QA1 Coil-Overs w/ 90/10s
Aerospace 4 piston billet disk brakes w/ 5 lug long studded rotors
Progress solid rear lower control arms

...and a ready for paint rust free coupe with a 10 point cage, 8.8 rearend w/ SVO girdle and lowers and 5 lug conversion- minus a hood and bumper lol

Still gonna stick with building my hatch-going to get coupe towed to the garage tomorrow and swap everything out to my car, I will be sure to get some pics up. Score!!!

Looks like I'm gonna have a stripped down coupe with a 10pt cage roller for sale soon as well as some other parts I won't be using...

No photos today, my phone died. But I did get the new parts car to the garage, stripped it all the way down to shell and got the tubular k-member, coilovers, caster camber plates, all billet brake setup all swapped over to my car! .Solid day...what a score! It's gonna be high of 20 degrees here all week and its tuff getting shop to 50 so hopefully I will get back at it this weekend if it warms up.

Progress and still (barely) on budget. We're rolling again!

Got the coil overs, brakes, caster camber palates and new k member in. Yes I need to clean up the rotors they've been parked for a while.

I'm assuming I will need a bump steer kit and need to check k-member for square alignment???

Nothing wrong with the coupe. It's 100% rust free. I just wanted to stick with the project I already had going. My car has interior and stock wheel wells, the coupe has no dash or wiring and rear fender wells cut out for big tire set-up. It needs some welding and fab work done, which I don't know how to do yet. I might keep it and build a drag roller out of it later, but in the meanwhile it is for sale to help fund the hatch so I can get this thing on the road this summer...I will be driving this thing, so full drag roller is not really where I wanted to go right now

I have a 6 in. cowl hood but I dropped mine 1.5" anyways just for clearance reasons and to have motor sit nice and low. Just from reading around here it's a tight fit and wanted as much space as I could get. I believe it helps later with pinion angles and with using the factory trans x-member as well as starter access. You can get it all under a stock hood easily with 1.5 spacers and a Torker II intake is what I've found.

Thanks, feels like I got a long way to go, really hoping to get it out this spring. I haven't done any engine related building in a long time so I'm relearning it all as I go. I'd be lost without this site!
