Well after selling off 3 engines I have built for this car I am finally going to install a big block in her.

I had a 70K mile unmolested C9 lincoln 460 which was essentially a good runner with no bore wear or inappropriate wear anywhere excepting the timing set which still had the nylon teeth on the cam gear. Decided to build an engine with parts lying around the shop so here is what I have"

Block decked .012" to set pistons .002 out of the bore

Stock C9 pistons with 11 cc dish. Will notch for large valves.

Reringed and a quick hone to freshen the straight cylinder bores.

Polished crank and select fit .001" clevite bearings

Paul Kane modded std volume oil pump.

Voodoo cam 219/227 on a 110 with mid 500" s lift ground with 4 degrees advance. Installed 1 degree advanced to 105 ICL. (Cam and lifter set free courtesy of my cam grinder.)

1.8 ratio comp high teck stainless roller rockers for .560" / .582" final lift

RPM intake gasket matched to felpro std gasket.

Edelbrock large chamber heads fully ported concentrating on good flow under .600" lift, decked .060" and .030" off of the intake side. 10.1 to 1 final C/R with an 8.8 to 1 DCR. (Thank you for the good deal Dave Ohagin) 330/233 cfm @ .600" lift. Squish grooves.

Holley 750 reworked by bobby at competition carbs. choke tower removed, rear metering block added, emulsion circuits reworked, air bleeds set up for this combo, quick change vac sec dashpot cover. Flows 820 cfm with down leg boosters that have been massaged and have a shear ledge.
.
Summit high volume mechanical fuel pump. Vehicle has 3/8" fuel lines and a 5/16" return

Dual snorkle 5.0 HO aircleaner with K&N filter ducted to cool air on sides of radiator.

Headers TBD either 6126 hookers or FPA headers.

3" X pipe and magnaflows with 2.5" tail pipes

B&M holeshot 2400 stall convertor purchased from a forum member thank you Andy M!!! Killer deal.
3.25 or 3.5 gears with trak loc. Already have 2.75 trak loc 9" now just need to change gears.

With a full iron 400 and a/c she weighed 4320 pounds. Should come in at around 4150 with all a/c removed and the aluminum heads, intake and water pump on the 460.

I am going to conservatively estimate HP at 460 and torque at 510.

I may change the cam to an EX solid flat tappet 230/236 @ .050 .584" / .600" lift ground again on a 110 because of the 1.8 rockers. would be 109 with std rockers.

The idea as the name states is to run 12.99 at about 105+ mph. Traction will be a huge problem I know...

Got that right. :/

Went back to work today and I have more dexterity than I anticipated. Will have to work on the easy things first and ramp up to the rest...

Did some re-jetting today from 76/87 to 79/90. 11 jet split per bobby at comp carbs due to billet metering block peculiarities. Was rewarded with a noticeable improvement in torque. I suspected it was lean because of plug readings and the seat of the pants felt strange.
Much better now.

Going to order an electric fp this week...

If you have the stock C8 pistons you will need to notch them for depth and radial clearance. 2.375 diameter cutter.

A great big shout out to Frank Merkl !!!

We did some horse trading and I got a billet R intermediate servo. I used a green .148 spring.

There was no return spring in the original intermediate servo??? WTF... Yep I called the builder.

When installing the servo I noticed that the band adjuster had backed off a bit. No wonder the 1 / 2 shifts were so sloppy. Long story short the trans is shifting perfectly now.

Still need more fuel pump and jet. Getting closer.
Set the MSD limiter to 6,300 and it pulls like a freight train into the limiter. I will need to chassis dyno to see where my new HP peak is at...

Shop is crazy busy right now...

The later pistons like yours have a 22 cc dish .240" deep.
My pistons are C8 and have a .125" deep 11 cc dish of the same shape but approximately 50% of the depth.

I was doing some practice launches in june and blew the sprag out of a second convertor. :(

I changed convertor builders...

New convertor has a HD Diesel sprag and stall was upped to 3450. I now have massive traction issues...

We don't race here until end of march / april...

In my opinion, this whole thread would be much more relevant/beneficial if we, as in those of us who are following this build-up, would have seen some real world drag strip passes instead of calculations, drama, and such. And also, before making the cam/carburetor swap. Otherwise, I'm losing interest. Sorry.

Well put, Scotty. I'd like to know what she runs, and I'm sure you'd like to more than anyone else. Bottom line is it's your project, not like you have an obligation to give us a timeslip haha.....Thanks for your help to a lot of us along the way. I, for one, truly appreciate it.

Holley Blue electric fuel pump feeds my 400 horse LTD without any issues!

NOTE: that the 75-78 ford ltd 460 Interceptors all ran high volume in tank electric fuel pumps!
...Thus was to correct bogging and fuel starvation above 110 mph that the stock fuel pumps delivered!

The mechanical block mounted pump on a 460 Interceptor was just a dummy / by-pass pump!! (no lever arm on it)

and if I remember correctly.. the electric pumps were 110 gph pumps,, but don't take that as gospel..

Still cant believe you don't have any 1/4 mile numbers yet....

You're not the only one...

I installed a 3/8" npt 130 GPH Holley mechanical pump. All fittings opened to .310 ID and 90 degree adapter opened and short turn radiused for better flow. Problem solved. :)

Test and tune starts in early April here...

Complete rear control arm kit ordered and on the way from PMT.

Mark is a pleasure to deal with and is building the specific adjustable panhard rod for the later full size vehicles.

Koni front shocks from a forum member are here as well. :D

In addition I am switching from the 26120 beehives to the slightly higher rate and more lift capable 26056 beehives... Valve springs are too close to stack for my comfort level.

Just finished reading entire thread--love the big cars! My 466 is in a '56 panel truck..some videos in other threads. Switching out the 2.75 for a 3.50 trac-loc..hoping for a good boost to lower end acceleration. I ,too, eagerly await your strip show in the spring. Thank you for sharing the good and bad during this project. Sorry for your illness, but by my own timeline, yours is moving super fast...my engine sat in a corner for 8 yrs! Keep the faith brother!:D

Thanxx James.

No worries I will live to be 75 lol...

All projects have ups and downs. I believe in sharing it all. Gives folks a realistic idea whats involved. Your switch will definitely help acceleration.

I have really made up my mind to get going on this.

I ordered an aluminum 4" dual snorkel drop based aircleaner assembly with hoses and a kit to pick up air from the headlight pods. Should be worth a tenth or two...

Think light weight Galaxie 427 with the screens over the bright headlight pods. :D

Holley mechanical 130 GPH. No more fuel starvation.

26056 beehive spring package is here as well.

PTD swaybar arrived yesterday. The lowers, upper and panhard rod (all adjustable) should be here today from PTD.

I currently have a lower control arm mounted Addco sway bar and it really helps the car launch straight as well as corner better. Steve who races the full size vehicles suggested it as it worked well for him. His posts are in this thread.

I am setting the lowers on the factory 22.5" centers and adjusting the top bar for neg pinion angle.
