With the pricey EDM lifters my cam grinder refaces the lifters with the proper finish and crown. They can then be reused.

DO NOT use the old lifters on a new cam. You are begging for trouble...

I believe he was on a chassis dyno so his exhaust system would definitely come into play.

The RWHP numbers are good however that cam should peak and does peak at about 6K with good iron CJ heads...

Hydraulic lifters plungers collapse due to spring pressure when the engine is not running. Open valves at what ever point the engine stopped rotating. This is normal especially with heavy springs.
