I also plan on checking the tranny modulated just to make sure I'm not sucking up tranny fluid. When I pull the pcv valve from the valve cover the motor idles up.

Bad news

Well, guys I decided to try and fine tune the motor this evening. First issue, not matter how far I set the screws in on the carb, the motor does not stumble. It will backing the mixture screws out....

Well, it appears to me that the tunnel for the tranny is pretty solid. Might just need to hit it with a wire brush. And, I would also hit the area around where you plan to weld with a wire wheel...

I have to agree with Gydyup. It doesn't look like the repair will have much structural value. They really need to be welded in and not just tacked to the existing rotted metal .
