I've seen studs break like his with a girdle. Ford and the other brand, be it sb or bb

drill the hole bigger.. or drill the gear 90* to the current one at the same height as the old gear. oh and check for any offset of the hole in the shaft

why the need for the bearing? Stock retainers work just fine. BTW plate is the same as a 351C, 351M/400
