I would go 4.560 that way there is plenty bore left and it being 588 is pretty close to 600 ci engine or you could use a 4.600 stroke crank (ohio crank has one for 700.) and 4.560 bore to make 601 ci

1- C8VE's with stainless stock size valves, comp solid roller springs and retainers, comp studs and guide plates, and they have a little port work/gasket matching, all parts...

Line bore??? did it spin the main bearings??? if not then it don't need to be line bored, cam bearings yes, freeze plugs yes, honed yes, if you had a real good mechainc he could have got the carb...

the parts are really cheap to do the re ring job and you may even want to put a little cam shaft in to like a RV or towing cam to give it a little more grunt as well as the timing chain and gear set,...

Timing Chains

I have used comp 7122, thats a double roller type, if you buy this timing chain when you install it do not use the oil slinger it will rub on the chain, hope this helps and good luck
