Either the lining is gone or it was never adjusted.

You would be wise to drop the valve body, remove the struts and look at the ends of the band.

The only way to correct this is a complete tear down.

Do you mean if the transmission is placed in Low it drives then will shift to 2nd then 3rd if the lever is moved but won't move if starting out in Drive position?

You must remove the transmission and open it up to replace the band so may as well look at seals and clutches while in there.

Check the band adjustment. The screw is in front of the lever. Hold the adjuster and loosen the lock nut. Torque the adjuster to 10 foot pounds and back it off 1 1/2 turns. Still holding the adjuster...

Like Greg mentioned. Lincoln transmissions are good but take some invention for a rear mount.

It is not mandatory that a dial indicator be used. Feeler gauges work just as well.
I set 6 clutches @ .090 clearance.

What kind of valve body do you have?

10 springs is all that is required. Space them out. As long as they aren't all close together.

The over run race is what holds the snap ring.

Piston, race, spring retainer, snap ring.

That much could get you into trouble.

Try it then see how the band fits.


If it were mine I would get a different drum.
