I agree with this and was going to mention it on the 4294V truck engine also, they have 4 ring packs too. The shorter stroke also promotes a better rod angle and less stress on cylinder walls as well...

With the drop in compression, retarded cam timing and the way the HP ratings were changed you will see a boost in performance, but I think the paper number's inflate the difference somewhat. I think...

Well maybe you misunderstand what I was trying to say, or I did not make it clear enough. 8.5 to 9.5 compression is not going to make any big gains in horse power, and you can run cheaper regular gas...

Just a ball park guess with the info you supplied, I would think you are close to max with your injection and could exceed it with better heads.

It would be nice to know the oil pressure on a cold winter startup, sometimes it can spike pretty high.

You could pull the valve covers and inspect, and make sure the drain back holes are open, and take a peak at the valve seals. Did this car have an oil pressure gauge?

^^^^^I agree, and bumping the compression a point on pump gas and a mild engine does not make a lot of power gain for the trouble and money. It's when you have a 1971 or earlier short block and D3's...

It's is hard to nail down an exact number, because there are usually so many variables. I will use the example of the old 600HP SVO 514, with 9.8/1 compression and stock SCJ aluminum heads. You can...

You will probably have to step up to a custom HD Alison type trans for something stronger. Not going to be cheap either. I think a built TH400 would be a little better, but you can blow those up too.

If you want to go BIG, do it ALL the first time and save money. I know what you are talking about on the exhaust (and other parts and hassle) and the SCJ's myself. Ported big valve Dove's look very...

If you are running a TB EFI, I would not base my decisions on that intake manifold. Changing intakes is cheap and easy, compared to most other things.

Maybe the book was talking about 73 model year which started some where in late 1972? The D2 heads did not last long. I think Ford may have listed the light duty trucks at 8.5 C/R for adverting hype...

Also along the same lines, if you look at the Holley stock jetting of a 700DP to a 750DP and a 800DP to a 850DP, which ones do you think would be more High Performance oriented? 80/80 jets with dual...

What is your total timing with initial at 20 degree's? It sounds like it may be a lot for a high compression engine, unless some mechanical advance has been removed, or you are running race gas? Do...

I don't know if it would fix it, but if he went from his present 72 rear jet WPV to a 76 rear jet WPV he should be at stock jetting in the rear assuming he has a 4780 or 4780-1 carb with original...
