No I do have a camera but I have no computer to upload them onto. Gasket seemed to be blown through in a little section no more than a 1/4 between the two cylinders. Heads straight and no leaky valves. Already slapped it back together. So I'm hoping for the best!!!! We will see tomorrow I guess. I wanna let the rtv dry overnight.

So you get it up and running? I'd take a good look at your vacuum advance make sure it is working correctly. Pre-ignition could have caused the failed head gasket and a vacuum advance not working correctly can do that.

So today I dropped the distributor in it. It fired right up and purred like a kitten thats secretly a lion. I set the timing on 10*btdc. And I have the vacuum advance disconnected. My mechanical advance takes it from 10* to 50*. Was told I have plenty of mechanical advance to conpensate for screwed up vacuum. Let me know how you feel about timing and the vacuum situation. But just have to dial in the carb and timing. It twists my wagon though. Lights them up as well pretty good. I have a 160* thermostat and it sits at 170*.

50deg of advance is too much! Need to get it down to around 32-38 degrees total. Running without vacuum advance is fine, won't hurt anything.

Like maverick said 50 deg mech. advance is too much. Sounds like your dizzy is screwed up. The adv. weights and springs are under the plate the points bolt to. With initial set at 10 deg, you want another 26 deg. give a total of 36 deg. all in by about 2,500 rpm.
Best performance usually is between 36 - 38 deg. on these engines. The question is if your gas is good enough to run the correct timing without detonation. I am thinking that will be no. You may need to cut back the total to about 32 deg. with all in by 3,000 RPM. The vacuum advance helps mileage and drivablity under part throttle. I'd replace the vac. adv. with an adj. one and limit full vac. to 15 deg. If this is going to be a regular street car I'd run an 180 deg. thermostat as 170 deg. is a bit on the cool side and will result in more wear. Now it will help as far as reducing the chance of detonation if that becomes an issue. Congrats on getting it up and running. Certainly is a cool ride! Steve |

Yeah still have to adjust those. It was the one that came with the engine. Everything inside looked like it was replaced and new so I used it. Guess ill have to mess with it. Yeah I figured that was a bit high. I would like to get electronic ignition for it but that will have to wait. Thanks steve!! I love my wagon. Tomorrow I'm gonna mess with it more. Still have some litttle things to do like hook the kickdown rod up and fill it with some antifreeze.

Wagons are cool !
If I was to guess someone did not assm. the dizzy correctly. Was nice of them to put all new parts in, now you just have to assm. it correctly. LOL Here is a link to a write up someone did should help. Click on the blue words will take you to some pictures that will help. You can buy spring kits for about $5 which come with instructions and show you the different curves you can make. Not to keen on his solution. http://www.gofastforless.com/ignition/advance.htm Last edited by 68xr7cat; 01-27-2013 at 10:29 PM. |

Well I think my transmission died!!! Its just slips when its in gear and the fluid smells burned. Doesnt move til the rpms get pretty high then it sluggishly moves forward. Worked great up until about an hour ago. Went to drive off from a light and it wouldnt go. Limped it home.

No wreckers near you? Or pull it and do put new fibres and steels and seals in it, they are a straight forward rebuild.

Like Dman said not hard to rebuild a C-6. If you need a good rebuilder I can recommend one of the best.

You need a special tool though right? I talked to a couple of shops and they said almost a 1000 $. I don't have much money to spend which is why i was hoping for a good used one.
