Cool Cam is NOT Damaged. Lifter plunger failure...

The pic kind of says it all...

Proceeding with installation of hydraulic roller cam with SOLID roller lifters.

224/234 / 110 +4 center 4 cylinders
228/234 / 112 +4 corner 4 cylinders

Lift with 1.8 rockers .600" intake and .620" exhaust.

26120 comp cams beehive spring package.

7122 comp timing set with torrington bearing.

Cam degreed in at +1 additional for chain stretch...

Cam grinder has not ever seen this type of failure nor have I.

A 950 hp is currently being built since the modded 750 flowing 840 cfm was pulling 1.6" of vacuum at peak HP WOT

First walk around. Worked Friday 11 to 8 and sat 11 to 10:15

Remember I had to install a steel dizzy gear.
Install, set installed height on the 26120 beehive springs, check each for full lift bind as my cam was a tic over the .600" lift max. Doing this in the vehicle was a pain in the azz...

Start up was uneventful or should I say routine. The no cam break in was a definite plus.

The pull to red line and into the rev limiter is much faster than before. Valve train is more stable imo. The idle burble is kind of unusual IMO. The phone microphone is a bit overwhelmed by the sounds...

First Drive Video...

https://www.facebook.com/video/embed...=4645350379064

Fuel pressure is dropping from 7 to 2.5 / 3 psi at WOT near 90 mph so a fuel system upgrade is next.
The current fuel pump is the summit branded high volume with all the 1/4" NPT fittings drilled out to .302"

That idle is odd!! You can hear the typical idle sound from the rear of the car "bup-bup-bup-bup-bup" etc. but when you near the engine compartment you can also hear the "fawk wit me-fawk wit me-fawk wit me" idle! lol Cool!!

I used the comp cams units with the forced pin oiling. This will be a long lived trouble free deal. The open spring pressure with the Beehives is about 380 pounds. This is fine for the hydraulic roller profile lobes I used.

The nice thing about these springs is that you can use less spring pressure vs a dual conventional spring. The comp web site does a good job of explaining why...

For the time being I converted to the largest HD 3" wide rear drum brakes I could find and have the HD SW sized drums with the oversized cooling fins.

To be frank I had not considered a disc conversion but it is a good idea no doubt !!!

Under very hard braking the rear brakes tend to try to lock up which is unnerving.

I have iron metallic pads up front.

Thanxx TQ.

This is a test bed for the 3 pattern cams before I offer them to clients.

The chassis dyno will give me more information about peaks and broadness of power band that I am after. It is currently limited to 6150 rpm but easily wants to pull past that. When I dyno I will try a pull with out the limit and see what the HP fall off looks like after the peak.

The old HP peak was 5650 rpm I will venture to be the new one will be closer to 6K or a tic less...

I ground on a 110 /112 lobe sep because of my 1.8 ratio rockers. Not only do the rockers make the cam look 2 degrees larger to the engine but they also increase the overlap triangle more equivalent to 109/111 which is where I would have ground the cam with 1.73 rockers...
