Default My Bronco through the mud pit!

Saturday, I participated in Valley Truck & Off Road's annual Mud Bog Event and did very well. My '78 Bronco was one of the fastest trucks through the mud pit! It surprised a lot of spectators because they thought it was just a 'pretty street truck'. But after it went through the 160' mud pit like a rocket, the crowd was clapping & cheering. I got a lot of compliments and thumbs up from the staging lane on the return trip. Some people walked over to get a closer look at my truck/engine. My 508" engine sounded great going through the mud. (Some EFI/engine details: Link)

The Holley Dominator EFI & DIS ignition didn't bog down at all, even of the way through, where it was the deepest. In fact, my Bronco was traveling so fast, I had to come off full throttle in a few spots. Most of the participants had to hold the throttle down and hope the engine didn't bog down too bad, while crawling out the end. Inspecting the other trucks, I think I was the only older 'muscle truck' with aftermarket fuel injection, however, most of the carbureted trucks were performing well too. (Most of the rigs were classic Chevy trucks.)

The exterior of my truck didn't get too muddy because I've got good tire coverage (fender flares & big mud flaps). The engine compartment and chassis was covered with mud...bad. It was just nice to be able to perform so well and drive it home in one piece. (My drivetrain is heavily modified for a street truck.) In the past year, my engine has been through the following upgrades:
• Holley Dominator EFI System
• Fuel & Oil Pressure Transducers
• Autometer Hall-Effect VSS Sensor ECU Input
• Autometer Transmission Temperature ECU Input
• Crankcase Pressure Sensor (additional MAP sensor)
• Dual WBO2 Sensors with HBX-1 Bung Extenders
• Dual Knock Sensors (software tuned)
• Multi-Port Fuel Injection (dual-plane conversion)
• 1000+ CFM Ported Throttle Body
• Custom 60-2 Crank Trigger Ignition
• Distributorless Ignition System
• Sequential EFI - Cam Sync Conversion
• 5.7" Touchscreen LCD Monitor
• Custom 2” Traction Bars - ” Rod Ends
• Custom Cold Air Induction Kit
• Custom Mandrel Bent 3" Dual Exhaust (older upgrade)

Other specs can be read in my signature. Next year, I'm planning to install a small 100 HP shot of nitrous oxide - dry, direct port & progressive activation (ECU controlled with all it's safety parameters).

Last Saturday, I participated in our local mud bog again.
This year, it was a much nastier pit, and my truck got a lot dirtier.

Looks like lots of fun. I didn't know anything like this still existed in CT.

Here's the video of this past Saturday's mud bog run.
Remember, these are mostly street trucks just having fun.
It was a great run. It was also my first time with TSL Bogger tires (35x14.5-15LT).
I should've ran the N2O, because I noticed these tires "consume" a little power.
However, I confirmed the truck's optimum gearing - put transmission in 2nd gear & 4WD high.
(Yes, my Lentech Strip Terminator AOD still starts in 1st, then auto shifts into 2nd.)
The best part is, my Ford is kicking tail in Chevy country! FORD - Found Off Road Diggin'!

YouTube video was last year's run.
Photobucket video is this year's run.
(Both videos are on Photobucket.)
