Talking 72 lincoln mark iv questions???

Hey all.
Just put a small deposit Dan on a very nice low mileage 72 linc mk iv and I have some questions.
1. What's the horse n tourque numbers?
2. What rear gears are in em?....posi ???
3. Just general what to watch fors and good n bads??
My first Lincoln and first bbford so fill me in. Tnx. Phatboy72

I have a 72 Linc. MK IV, Calif. car. [may be different from 49 state cars] [1] HP is 212 hp/SAE net. Different rating than SAE gross HP from earlier years. [2]The 9-3/8" rear end has a 2.75-1 gear ratio. [not to be confused with the Ford 9"] [3] What to look for....Where do I start? Main thing is rust under the vinyl top, starts around the back glass area between the glass and the trunk lid. Telltail signs are small lumps and bumps in the vinyl material and when pressed will make a crunching sound. Not a deal killer as small amounts of rust can be fixed if you do sheetmetal work. Next is the heads: factory installed are the D2 open chamber heads which are prone to pinging/detonation on pump gas. Fuel mileage sucks too. HVAC can be problematic as the controls are complicated as they are a combination of vacume, electrial and mechanical. As with any other cars these cars have their quirks and problems but are a great road/hiway car that is comfortable and safe as compaired to the typical econo-cakeboxes that occupy the hiways now. My MK IV is the only car I've owned that I've been able to drive 14-15 hours straight [gas stops only] and not have to see a chiropractor after the trip.

Traction Loc unlikely. I would not worry about the D2 heads, set the timing properly, and with our new alky blend gas you will be OK. The roof rust is something to look out for though. And yes the A/C controls can be a pain, and 134a refrigerant is not that good in traffic with the old R-12 systems either. As for them being good highway cruisers, they where second, maybe to Caddy's, and that is debateable. I also understand that around 1973-74 you could get a Carter Thermoquad intake and carb. I would look into this as they are suposed to get better gas mileage, and should be a cheap upgrade. The Thermoquad Carb has tiny primaries, and giant secondaries, to improve mileage, and maintain performance. They also sound cool when you floor them.
