Thanks ------- As the car moves through its different stages the more and more I like it. It has evolved ----- waaaaaay ----- past the original idea for this car.







Cowl skin underside



The cowl opening closed in on both sides of center that will be cut out for carb access and also the wiper pockets filled in.



The underside panel cut --- fit --- and held in place with clamps for welding.



The cowl / Firewall transition is made from 22 gauge cold rolled steel.



The center cutout is boxed in and will be covered by the rear of the hood scoop



Now we can proceed with the firewall.

Transferring pattern to sheet metal.



Transfer punch and ring adapter used to pickup tube centers for knockout punches.



bead and brake line layout.

Firewall trans tunnel opening ---- drivers side.



Trans opening from engine side showing small diameter 4130 tube reinforcement/stiffener.



Panels with the edges finished, holes drilled and clecoed in place.



Stiffener tube stitch welded to the 22 gauge mild steel firewall.



Right side of pic shows a receiver flange for the front of the aluminum trans tunnel sides.

Forming the rear drive shaft tunnel panel that goes between the upper and lower 4 Link tubes.



Panel being hammer formed.



Finished trans tunnel flange.



Panel held in place with dzus fasteners ready for tunnel.



The decision was made to make a stand alone drive shaft tunnel rather than just boxing in the double frame rails.



This leaves more room for mounting accessories.



Tunnel fit around rear panel flange.

People with good mechanical aptitude can acquire the skills to do any of this.If you are on this forum and work on your own car its a pretty safe bet you qualify . Just takes getting involved , searching for answers to your questions and practice. A few tools help also.

If you guys have any questions I may be able to help with let me know. I have no secrets. I'm just a guy like you that has been banging my head against this stuff since 1978.

Picking up angle for firewall to trans tunnel transition flange.



Setting band saw table angle.



Cutting out hammer form blocks with preset table angle.



Aluminum clamped in blocks ready for the hammer forming.



Finnished flange.



Flange riveted to firewall panel.



The panels were dimpled and flat head flush style smash rivets were used.



4 dzus buttons are used to fasten the finished transition panel to the firewall.
