I was going to put one in my f250 but ended up selling the trans before i got around to it. I was just going to re drill my bell housing to fit the trans.
In the ford truck form they have a tech. in the tech area a 390 mated to a dodge NV.4500 a 1'' spacer between the bellhousing well there is more to it but I forget. Its still there. A friend of mine hase a full size blazer 350 with a NV4500 and he gets 22mpg he says I was thanking maybe I would get the same if I used one behind my 460 63 F100 short bed 2wd 3.25 are maybe not.
in 1998 i purchased aa new k3500 4x4 with original equipment 4500 trans. truck was the last of the 350 engines. trans was noisy slow shifting requires goophy fluid. never got more than 13mpg. i used it for 265000 miles. funny thing a 35 year old truck with a t18 trans pulled it up on a trailer for the scrap yard....fwiw, bobn
Have you thought about a ZF? I have a ZF in my '96 7.3 4X4 and one in a 1975 Bronco behind a 302 and they bolted right up and work fine. Ford made them for the 460s too. I love the low 1st gear and the overdrive 5th.
or how about a clark 5 speed out of an f600 with a 429 in it? theyll bolt right up too and some have overdrive too like the 280vo or 285vo... if i were doing a truck with a manual thats what id use.
