Default MID-PLATE opinions Please

I'd like to get some personal opinions on a MID-PLATE and there ultimate purpose. Please give some reasoning behind your opinion if you can. Also, and at what point do you think they are necessary and would you need one if your running a front plate?

mid-motor plates are designed to work in conjunction with front motor plates to eliminate torsional stress within the chassis. installation of the mid-motor plate also allows easier transmission swaps and aligns the drivetrain to eliminate block twisting and broken transmission cases.
if your making enough power or going through the trouble to fab a front-plate, why wouldnt you also set-up a mid-plate? :?: jmo

I was thinking about this too. My galaxie has really low frame rails and I would have to run a massive mid plate.
Can you run a front plate with motor mounts and some type of rear limiter?

If your not going to run a midplate then use the regular motor mounts. With the motor mounts there really is no need for a front plate, that is if they are solid and or you have a travel liniter.

A midplate properly installed will distribute power to the chassis more effectivly and stiffen the chassis. Motor plates can take stress off of the block where the mounts bolt up, in extreme cases a thin block and a lot of power you can get some distrortion.

I've seen the samething, just never knew about the whole deal. Some say you should run a solid trans mount with it as well.??

Never run an auto trans with a solid tail shaft mount in a door car, regardless of how the motor is mounted. Some kind of a flexible trans mount should always be used.

IMHO, if it is an all out race car then I would use 1/4" aluminum engine plate & 1/4" aluminum mid plate. I would also buy a good poly mount for the transmission.

Are the front and mid plates used just on drag cars? I'm building a roadrace/auto-x car and was wondering if I should just stick with motor mounts.
Thoughts as I'm a bit confused also?

front and midplates would be fine and a better solution. And yes never use a solid tranny mount.

Lets say you have an issue with header clearance and you want to just run a front plate and motor mounts. Would that be over kill because of the motor mounts? And would the front plate even need to be used with motor mounts?

If you are running motor mounts then there is really no reason to run a front motor plate. Running a front motor plate does make more room for headers. I am running a front and mid plate on my Fairlane as well as a tranny mount (NOT solid).

Default mid plate

They covered it all. It takes some time to fabricate and they can be a pain ,but if installed correctly you will have a better working car that does not break as many parts. They are worth the effort if you plan to make any kind of power or have a car that leaves hard. Ward

I see. I wish I had more room for headers around my mid-plate. I made my mid plate as small as I could without it being considered not worth using. Any ideas? It's a 65 mustang with a Rod and custom coilover suspension. Towers are gone.
