I guess there is stock and then there is "stock". This is like the stock/super stock cars running 10's and faster. Lots of tweeking, acid porting, etc.....

Sounds a little optimistic.

I did it with a 302 Ford, only thing not so stock was the cam.

Not saying its legit, but doable with the right parts.

With all stock parts properly massaged on, no problem. Ported heads, reground cam, cheater valve springs..... No problem

This can not only be done with FACTORY parts but, I have done it.
Optionally, you could order all the parts when you ordered the car and they came in the trunk for the dealer to install.
Now, anything below 4,200 RPM was a real chore to drive; the engine was like a lightswitch.

A local guy named Whip Wilson has a first gen Camaro with a "stock" 302 that is awesome. I have total respect for this guy because he bought the car new, raced it from day one, and knows every inch of it. It has somewhere less than 10k original miles on the car. 1/4 mile at a time. And he is cool with me when I go to the Chevy dealership to get GM synchromesh fluid for the Tremec in my Galaxie. All around good guy.

My 460 build before this last one was a stock rebuild......it must have made about 837HP!! It felt pretty tame for having all that power!!

It is amazing what these guys are getting out of a "stock" engine. I guess it is all about knowing how to rub the stock parts!!

Stock engine? Or "stock car" engine.

I believe the trans-am 302's of that era had a hard time eclipsing 450hp, and were about 7200 or so on the expected rev limit with solid cams, well worked heads, etc...

Take that dyno and figure the tach is set for a 6 cylinder... or worse even a 4... and then cut that HP by 4........ and YEA, your right in there. I didn't hear no 8000 RPM scream, I heard about 4500 to 5000 RPM... MAX

Default I was a bit off.

Just went to Traco site and they advertise a 68 at 470 but with 2x4.
