Default High or Low?

I'm sure this has been talked about at length before.... But..
What do you guys run "normally"....

Last Thursday I ran my truck in it's first bogg..

Engine is .060 w/ flat tops voo doo cam 1ooo to 55oo, dove heads, weiland 8012, 770 carb, MSD.

Mud was deeper than I exptected it was also a clay like mud.. Deep, dry, and real sticky. I changed out the 38.5's and put my 32's on. Ran 4 high first pass and it just didnt spool up high enough. I've got a c6 w/ 4.10 gears.

I expected that motor to spin the 32's like crazy? No such luck....

I figured the bogg would get faster as we dug deeper to solid ground. So I ran high range for pass 2 and 3. I never got 5,000rpm in first...

I know nothing about C6 transmissions. do they Shift by themselfs even if you hold it in low?

So newbe to you salty dogs.. What do I do next time? 4-Low and 38.5's? Is my motor missing something? Should it have more power? BTW.. new to this Ford stuff.. you all have converted a Chevy guy with your ground thumping torque of a 460!!!!
