Default Ford Powered AA/FA

My racing partner, Jeff and I have teamed up with Van Heskett to build and race a new real deal AA/FA with a BBF on fuel. Both Jeff and I have been involved in Drag Racing and car building for sometime now. But, this is a whole deal for us. In the past we have raced Gassers. It's been a dream of mine to run a Fuel Altered and thanks to Van the opportunity is now there.

The plan right now is to start building the car later next year. In the interim there's lots of work to be done to go fuel racing.

The body we have is a Ford, not a 23 T, but a unique coupe.

We're looking forward to getting out there and mixing it up with the other So. Cal Fuel Altereds and flying the Ford flag once again in fuel racing.

Vince

Will do. Right now I'm putting every last cent I can in the bank for the build. I've got a list of projects to get done on our trailer to change over from Gasser to Fuel Altered racing. I need to get top end and bottom end trays sorted out, ..... Lots of stuff to do.

While Van is getting his other projects done and our other partner Jeff is busy with his projects, I'm getting a jump on some of the grunt work (I have no skills to speak of). I started on cleaning up the 9 inch rear end for the Paladin AA/FA. I want to replace the fasteners and AN dran plug and AN breather. The brake rotors need to be turned or replaced. Other then being dirty its in great shape. Once I figure out how to get the floater out of the housing I'll get it media blasted, clean up the parts, and get new fasteners. Then move on to the 9 inch center. Just the start of all of the "little" things to get the car built. I dont have the know how that Van or Jeff has so I'm trying to get the grunt work done.

By the way the rear I have along with all of the other parts have come from Bob Pickett's US Marines / Bobby Lagana's Twilight Zone nitro funny car. I also have the chassis, it wont be used. We're building a new chassis and using the parts from the old car like steering, wheels, rear, fuel tank and the puke tank. So it be begins.

Happy New Year.

Vince

After some advise from Van and Jeff's Dad I was able to get the floater out of the housing.

Here's a bad cell phone photo of the body waiting to go to the fab shop for a new chassis. We call it a 1930 Model A, matching grill shell is on it's way.

We got the ball rolling Sunday and made the first bends. We've gone with a Mark Williams modular rear end and a Strange Ultra 3rd member.

Van and Bob got the first nitro block up on the mill. That's a real BOSS 429 block. Bob milled off a lot of material from the block.

That crome moly pipe might not look like it, but there's a fuel altered chassis there.

We're going to build the chassis to Pro Standards with an NHRA Pro tag.

Today Van, Bill, and I machined 3 sleeves to fit inside the shoulder hoop. We got all 3 sleeves in place and rosette welded. We finshed the last bends on the shoulder hoop. Ate at Tommys! Things are moving along.

Van had a set Top Fuel wheelie bars that needed a little clean up. So after a couple nights of sanding they look like new.

Vince save these pics (in Post # 11) and take them to every event. Why? Because some Tech Inspectors are going to question how it's even possible to sleeve those two tubing sizes used on the cage, doubt the install of the required internal sleeves, and charge that the rosette weld is just a decoy. You can just whip out the pics and say, "of course it's possible--Van made it happen. Now get down on the asphalt and give me 20, bitch."

Paul

P.S.: Tommy Burgers rule.
