Default Please school me on Grand Torinos

I have an opportunity to get my hands on a '71 G Torino 500 with a nice motor combo in it. 460 with a decent build and a built C6.

Other than the "normal" floor board and trunk bottom rust, what are key things to check or look out for?

Also, does anyone have any good upgrades available for the suspension or other key components available?

I don't believe the Gran Torino moniker was used until 1972. 1971 would have been a Torino, Torino 500, Torino Brougham, or Torino GT.

With floor rust be sure to check the torque box areas where the sub frame connection is at the body. Have seen bad rust issues on 70/71 Torinos in that area

Thanks Blue- that's what I'm looking for.
Yes- it's a Torino 500. I was just lumping them all together.

Check the cowl/firewall area. Very common rust out area on 70-71s.... Rest of the car is just like a Mustang of the same vintage. 72 went to full frame construction, no unit body's any more....

Check the trunk floor and the rear fraimrails were the shakles are. The front torque boxes are the biggest problem. They dont make quarter panels either.
