I put 110 octane in it. Had a bottle of NOS too. Did way better than any FE will do

Haha.

I heard the Mississippi river low...hows the tug boat goin to make it? You will be like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn on a raft soon.

Drove around for near half a year with nothing but sheet metal interior :-)
Found some old door panels in my junk heap and painted them with some vinyl dye. Looked pretty good.

Got tired of the crappy Ford power steering of the era. I'd rebuilt most of it, and it would still be kinda vague at 65mph. Converted it to manual steering and haven't been happier with it. Still need to rebuild the front end (got the parts, just not the time).

Saw a sale at Mac's Auto and figured summer was here, it'd be nice to not have so much heat and road/gear noise in the car.
I wasn't starting with anything really all that bad, so I'd say the whole project took maybe 6 hours, the rest of the time was people annoying me in my shop and waiting for things to dry. I did the project over a 2 day period.

Floor was in primer, tho some surface rust, It was all sanded, cleaned, and treated with phosphoric acid.





I then washed, recleaned, and primered the few rust spots. After that I used a spray on sound deadener called "boom mat" This served my need for not only some sound killing, but also doubled as my paint top coat. I did not really feel this spray on sound deadener was needed... But simply put, I didn't feel like taking the interior out again this decade.





The little "kit" I got from Mac's was called Acousti-shield. It came with heat mat and Dynamat strips. I guess the idea behind the strips is to just kill drumming type noise in longer flat sheet metal.





Heat Insulation test fit, cut as needed, glued and taped up.

After that, test fit, cut and installed Carpeting.





All back together and ready to roll. Need to find some longer bolts for the passenger side seat belt. Still need to buff some old skuff plates and install those.




Very simple project, yielded great results as far as sound and heat went. I was actually kinda suprised how nicely the "acousti-shield" kit worked as it was pretty darn cheap.

I would say I have maybe $500 in the whole project. It isn't bad for a budget project, if you were like me and simply need some carpet and sound deadening.

Looking back, things I'd have done differently......
The carpet is kinda cheap. It'll survive, and I drive this car a lot, so I don't mind all that much as this isn't a high end restoration or anything. I really should have checked with the local auto-interior place as they are very cheap and very good, most likely it'd been $150 more for them to make something and install it and it most likely would have been a much better job. I also wish I could have carpeted the sheet metal that the rear seat sits on. Would have made a much more professional look.

Extreme heat... heh, shoot man, it was winter, was nice to have the buzzing noise, heat, and smell of gear and atf wafting through the cab :P

No I haven't gone to the track with it. It isn't in shape for that sort of thing. I need to save a little more money and replace the stock rear end. The car was originally a 289 car, it still has tiny 28 spline stock axles, third member (open diff), and driveshaft. After 50 years, I don't trust any of it in a situation where I may get traction.

Captain, did you see they closed the local 1/8 mile track? I'd have to drive an hour to the 1/4 mile track in Cecil. Once I rebuild/replace the rear and get the front end squared away (It gets real floaty above 65mph) I'll head over there.

For me at least the real priority has been to make this car a really nice cruiser. Getting there all the time.

Yeah I have an 8" worn out rear in my wagon and its getting pretty beat up lol. That's next on my to do list.
