I need advice for a 545, P51 heads no clean up right out of box, diamond flat top about 14 to 1 compresion, 4.5 scat forged crank, scat 6.8 forged h-beams. 1050 quick fuel, and victor 460 with 4500 top, shift about 6800 max behind a glide. I have been working on this project for almost two years because I have limited funds. I have tried to purchase the best parts I could afford. I need a reccomendation for a camshaft that is right for this combo but also somewhat easy on the valvetrain, oh, I have a tube chassis maverick that weighs about 2700 lbs. Since I have limited funds my goal is to make as much HP without pushing the limit and costly maintenence. I hope I have said this correctly, I want to go as fast as I can, but also want to go and unload, fire it up, go as many rounds as I can, bring it home and park it, next week do it all over again. I understand it has to be put together correctly and hopefully the parts will withstand what I want to do. Any advice will be appreciated, I really respect the members on this forum and their advive thank you Bob

My advice to you would be to contact one of the custom cam guys on here and get not only a recommendation but the cam itself. Depending on your location that may help you chose who to use.
Do your heads already have springs or do you need them also ? If they already have a spring package your cam will have to work within the springs capabilities from a cost point of view and not buy another set of springs. Another thing to think about is roller lifters if you have not purchased any yet. I imagine you are going roller cam, no ? JMO Mark |

Like Mark said, the spring/retainer package will matter a lot.

the springs are manley, good up to 800 lift is what I was told from the Kasse shop. I had them to upgrade to titanium retainers and yes I will be runing a mechanical roller. thank you for responding so quickly Mark and Lem. I have been out in the garage working on the maverick all day, love it, Lem and Charlie Im about an hour away. Right outside of fort knox ky in Radcliff
