Default C6 trans and 13 pennies shift improver

I have heard about adding 13 pennies in place of the accumulator spring in the valve body of a C6. Is this a good stand alone mod to help firm up the shift on an otherwise stock transmission?
Any drawback to doing this for a mild street car?

I have to ask... I just mic'd an accumulator spring plug that comes in a B&M 3 stage Transpak and it measured .880" in length, whereas 13 pennies came to .740". Would having a clearance of .140" be a problem or help with shift quality? Not trying to be a smarta$$, but is there a difference in thickness between an American and a Canadian penny? The B&M plug fits flush when installed in my D7AP valvebody housing. Should the penny stack be flush with the VB housing as well, or...? Thanks in advance, Todd

Frank,
So as long as the penny count comes flush or as close to flush as possible to the valvebody/banana plate surface(making sure it doesn't stand "proud" of the VB/BP surface), this mod will work just fine. Thank you, Todd

The Canadian penny is out of production so will be feeling kind of small now.

Darn wish I would have seen this when I was doing my valve body. Would have liked that firmer 2-3 shift.

I know I should have. Guy said he had a shift kit. Thought that would be good enough. Didn't realize til I got it together that it wasn't that impressive of a shift kit.

One thing I have learned is if a PO says it is this or that I don't believe it, I just think yaya I'm going to have to take it apart and do it my way. Lol. It will give you something to do on a Saturday.
