The stock crank driven style water pump backing plate is not necessary when using an electric water pump. Bolt the front plate between the electric pump and the timing cover and you are done. I use silicone between the front plate and timing cover and between the pump and front plate. Some pumps come with an o ring on the mounting surface, I still use a small amount of silicone to insure a good seal because of plate movement. Hope that helps.

try using aviation gasket sealer on the motor side gaskets. it comes in palastic small jar with a brush. that stuff will work for you. also use grade 8 bolts and tighten the pi&& out of them.
