Building a 4.5 stroke d1ve block stroker, looking at the afr 300 and p51 heads, which would be better? They look very close from all I have researched, just trying to get all the info I can before I pull the trigger. Engine is going in a 75 f 100 2wd, set up for 93 pump gas, aod/4r70w trans, fitech fuel injection, ac, daily driver capability with as much torque as possible, 6000 max, only thing I have for this at this point is the block at this point, would like to be able to run a 12 sec pass if it ever made it to the strip.
To get 4600# to 12.0 you will need about 550 hp. 5000# closer to 575 hp at the crank as installed in the vehicle so build a bit extra into the combo.
You do not need the big AFR 315's. The stated goal can easily
be done with the AFR 280's or 295's if you want room to grow.
11 to 1 545
Torker 2 intake with a jomar power cone will offer better daily driver manners than the tall AFR 4150 intake.
HFT cam of about 230 to 236 intake duration and 12 more on the exhaust.
Properly curved distributor
Good rocker arms
Good 9 key timing set.
We've done many AFR headed builds patterned after ported SCJ and P-51 builds already tested. On our somewhat conservative dyno the AFR heads best the out of the box P-51's and are easier to source. This is said with all due respect to Mr. Jon Kaase.
Hell, we do a regular fuel 521 towing engine with AFR 280's and an RPM intake that would get you there:
Two clients copied this exact build with our help and in southern Cali dyno'd at 600+
Hope this helps...
