Building a 429. Trying to figure out a good intake, cam carb combination for a street performer going in a 67 mustang coup. Would like to get 500 hp out of it but don’t want it to drive like a strip car and not break the budget. Cam recommendations so far are 112 lobe, lift under .550 and duration under 230. To reach the 500 hp Mark it was Recomended to go with an 870 cfm Holley street avenger 4150. No idea on an intake manifold.
Here is a link to a FB build album for a rare 429" deal we did recently. The same combo at 468" made 494 HP. Some additional cam timing would get you close. Cylinder head airflow is critical but so is keeping intake port cross section increases minimal.
Summit Racing recommended this combination:
COMP Cams Magnum Hydraulic Cam and Lifter Kits (CL34-229-4) with Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Duration 270/270, Lift .519/.519 - $220.00.
Edelbrock 2166 Performer Intake Manifolds - Dual Plane, Aluminum, Natural, Square Bore ($314.00)
Edelbrock 1411 Performer Carburetor 750 cfm, 4-Barrel, Square Bore, Electric Choke, Single Inlet. ($405.00)
Not much experience on the lower end so I'm getting it done at State Motors: Block Rebore ($160.00), Bake and Peen ($120.00), Crank ($120.00), Heads and Seals ($300.00), Balance and Assembly ($350).
I think Ill call the Mad Porter then and see what he has to say. Thanks for the advice and will let you know what I end up with.
