my 87 ford

have a 1987 pre-efi ford f350 with a 460 and a 4 speed. awesome truck but wont run. have gotten it to start and run a few seconds by putting some gas into the carb. put 5 gallons in the tank but we cant get it run. hoping we can get some advise on how to go about this

Sounds like a fuel pump issue. Low pressure in tank pump failure.

You might also have a mechanical.

Try something easly like replacing the fuel pump relay switch.
On my 87 E350 Motorhome it's in the engine compartment right behind the drivers side headlight.
I was having the same problem.
Cheap fix solved the problem.

HI, start by, pull fuel line off at the carb. put end in a bottle and turn the motor over (remove coil wire so it don't try to start). you should be a good squart of fuel into the bottle if not pump is bad or fuel filter or line is plugged.

I'll have to agree; a truck that won't run will leave most people in awe. I'll also agree with everyone that it's a lack of fuel problem. Just check everything in the fuel supply and you will find the problem.
