Flat spot in the power band..

Having a problem with a flat spot at about 5200 it seems to lay down, then if you stay in it, it will pick back up at about 5800. Thought the trans was the problem but had it rebuilt, so leaning towards something else. Maybe fuel, timing? This is my buddy's deal but its driving me crazy, dont need him making excuses when I eat him up LOL... Any advice would be great Thanks Pat...

I experienced this with weak valve springs, new springs fixed the issue.
