First pull with the "Big Boys"

Finally got the motor back together and running better after discovering the head gaskets leaking. Took it to Rochester for my first ITPA sanctioned pull to hopefully see if everything was working properly now, and to see what she had to give. I went there figuring I'd end up dead last, but at least I'd begin the learning curve for playing with the big boys. Much to my surprise, the motor came on nicely and we ended up with a 6th place finish, while not a great finish, I am very pleased with it since it was the first time with ITPA.

Here's a video clip of the run. Feedback and advice welcome!

rochester

I was there, I did not see much of the truck class, we were busy getting loaded up. I pulled in the econo mod class. I was the test puller and ended up making 3 passes that night. I did not get a hold of much on that track, turned about 8800rpm on my 1st 2 passes. I ended up forth, but took it easy the 3rd pass, was real hesitant about running 3rd time. I am running a dry block and it was getting pretty warm.
Where are you going to be next? Are you going to be back at Rochester tomorrow?

re Rochester

No, I won't be at Rochester tonight. They aren't running gas 4x4 until tomorrow and ITPA is running in Kokomo, so that's where I'll be. Gotta chase those points! (plus the purse is better than what the fair board gives out)

I'll look for ya when I'm at a pull with Econo mods! Are you running a 460?

Sweet. I've still got a long way to go before being competitive. I'm still fine tuning the motor, and next is gearing. I plan to change the gearing setup this winter to get more wheel speed, and I'm thinking of taking it to a place in Ft. Wayne that has a chassis dyno to squeeze every last hp out of the motor I can.

Man you need some tires on that thing.... Whats the rules state for tire size in your class? All the guys down here that run in Ken/Tenn pullers are limited to 480 cubic inches N/A 1 carb, factory heads, and intake must accept factory gaskets, and DOT tires for Pro Street. Pro stock has same rules but any head allowed 1 carb and they can run bar tires..

The DOT tires are 33x12.50 max size for pro street and I think the bar tires are 31 x 18.50 max size...

Tires

I have a set of 33-12.5's but last year, I had trouble pulling with them, so when I ran Rochester, I put the smaller tires on to see where we were at. I'll be pulling tonight in Kokomo, In with the 33's. Hopefully, with the new motor combo, it'll have the pony's to run the 33-12.5's Mastercraft AT's at the upper rpm's.

Right off the top of my head missouri has mstpa mmttpa cmttpa mstpa and the outlaws and a few from lucas oil and ntpa.Ive heard of semo though. Is there a class above the class that you are in right now with that association?
