UGH! Starter Issues. *videos*

Ok.. So this was with my 351W/C4. Note the happy starter sound, with the OEM starter.

Now this is the starter in my 460. It's an Autozone starter, for, something with a 460, I forget what application I used. Same Camera.. It sounds miserably loud. I've tried with a shim, and without, same thing.

The combo is a 460/C6. Starter is from a C6. No solenoid mounted on the starter. The plate between the engine and tranny is there. I would have tried my 351W starter, but alas, the C6 piece is threaded, where the C4 starter is not. I'd love to get a gear reduction piece, like the PA performance... but only if it'll fix this. Thoughts? Forget trying to start it.. every 5th time or so, it gives the WHIEEEEEEEEEEEEE of gears not doing anything.

I'm almost tempted to try and 'tilt' the starter in the hole with a washer under one bolt.

Also, forget the 460 starting... I got it to fart a few times.. with open Super Comp headers, I felt like I was in Beirut.. I'll pass, until exhaust is under the car.

Any thoughts here? The bendix wheel feels fine on the starter, and the flexplate, it's not *perfect* but I've felt and used much worse.

I tried Autozone starters on mine years back and had to exchange it three times before I got a good one.

Starter recommendation

Can someone recommend a brand of starter? I was going to buy an autozone unit since the NAPA unit I bought 3 years ago is starting to fail.

What are the odds that I have totally mismatched components here? That's what I'm somewhat afraid of.

The flex plate is a parts store special as well. If the teeth count was off, the gear wouldn't mesh at ALL, right?
