Will 28 spline axles work for a few 10sec passes?

I have 31spline 3.50s in the car now and have a 28spline 3.89 i could put in if it would hold up to see if the 3.89s were better or needed some 4.11s.

car runs 11.10s in 1/4 shifting at 6500 and crossing at 5800

3500 stall
3.50
466

thanks randy

Weight and traction is going to be your enemy here. If the car is heavy and you are running slicks, I don't think they will hold up, at least I wouldn't have the guts to try it.
Why not just change the ring and pinion between the two units?

IF it's an "open" rear, you MAY be able to just change the side gears. The side gears will fit, but the axles MAY not go through the sides, check first. It's not hard to bore the cases for clearance, I've done it, it just costs a bit. Then you've got 2 31 spline punkins. 9 inch side gears are not hard to find...find a local guy that does rear ends.

Some people can break a cannon ball, in a sand box, with their bare hands.
