.....so I go to the track on Sat. conditions were absolutely terrible!!
22 MPH head winds, blowing sand all over the place (this is at LACR, in the hi desert, north of Los Angeles), slippery track, etc.
I could'nt get my car to run anywhere near what it "should" be running.
Of course I took the track condition into consideration, but still, I've ran much faster before with the same kind of crappy conditions.
Heres how things went.
First run, I do a moderate burnout and stage. Ran a 13.42....Im like WTF?? :evil:
Check timing, its only at 28 degrees LOL!! re-set it to 36.
2nd run...12.42, much better, but still, this POS should run easy 11.50's to 11.60's.
3rd run...12.77 now Im pissed because its getting slower.
4th run...13.03 :roll: ....now I simply look like a dumbass!!
Check the plugs, they are white as a ghost!! pull the jets to check what size they are (carb is a Holley HP 1050 Dominator), they are 82/84.....so I step it up to 87/89's
5th run...12.78.......Im gonna KILL SOMEONE!!!! :evil:
Check the plugs again, there is a little bit of color on there, but not enough.
Where the f*** are my jets at?? I could'nt find them (later found out that I forgot them at home
Oh well, not much tuning I can do now.
6th run....12.90 spinning badly. Let out some air in the ET Streets, down to 15 psi.
7th run...12.66. Screw it!! Im putting it back on the trailer.
This was the first outing with this new combo. Its not much of a "radical" combo, but still it should be much faster/quicker than this.
Heres a quick rundown of my combo...\/
Car: 1968 Torino GT....4000lbs (with me in it)
472 cu. in.
Edelbrock aluminum heads...large CJ port version. They are ported/polished.
Victor intake man.
Comp Cams solid flat tappet cam 260/270 @ .050" 106LC .640"/.666" after the lash, its .628"/.652"
2" inch primary headers into 3.5" collectors, full exhaust with Flowmaster 2 chamber muffs.
C6 trans with 3200 10"inch convertor ( I think I'll try a 4500 convertor)
M/T ET Street tires 28x12.5"
I know I need to fiddle with the jetting, and I feel that my convertor is holding me back big time.
Should I try open headers??
