Project GalaxieQuest

Finally! I was able to pick up my '67 Galaxie today to start my project. Here are a few pics before I took her home.





As I make progress I'll post more pics so I can keep you guys updated. It's funny, the engine somehow grew from a nasty 466 to an unruly 552. Oh well, more engine MUST mean more fun. Right??

Yeah, I call it project GalaxieQuest cause that's gonna be the name on the rear quarter from the door to the tail lights. The whole car is gonna be Ford Blue with the Blue Oval on each door.

My only real dilema is the cage, was looking at the pre-made ones but can't find one that is Galaxie specific. Does anyone know of any, or if the one for the early('67-'68) Mustang can be made to work? Not sure but I would think that particular one may be too narrow. I think all in all it's gonna be both an awesome project and a pain in the rear but lookout when it's done.

That should make a really cool racer, I'm a post-top kinda guy. In regard to your roll bar deal, Art Morrison will build you anything, I think they have a custom roll bar from on the website, if I recall there is an added $125 engineering fee. The other option would be to take it to someone who can build it and install it from scratch.

Thanks Scott, I'll look into it. Yeah it's been suggested many-a-time that I use a mustang or anything smaller, but I just can't drag myself away from these old cars. I guess it's a nostalgia thing. Thanks again for the tip.

Doug, good luck on the project. I am building a '69 XL with a 605" N/A...for now, the dual dom TF intake is ready and plummed for a fogger if need be.

I ended up having a local Boeing guy (who also does amazing chassis work out of his garage) install a 10 point chromoly cage in my car for $900 and it was worth every penny, piece of artwork. Damn, I still wish I was better at bendin' pipe. Nice '67...love to see those big Galaxies scream.

I still have my first Galaxie. It was a 390 4spd 1966. Right now it has a half finished Alston kit in it, and it's on the back burner till I get my garage finished. I like the stock look, except for the BIG tires in the back. :shock: Your 67 should be real cool when finished.

Where's my beer and that half inch wrench?

your going to have to come down out of cold snowy slow montana and race down here in SLC UT. at rocky mountain raceway...
As one 67 Galaxie owner to another it would be a blast to run side by side..
my 67 is a rusted out gutted shell with 460, 4spd, and a predator carb.
But it's plenty fun! especially on friday midnight drags starting this May..
Shows the import kiddie cars a thing or two.

If I may let me make a suggestion that helps immensely with frame stiffness and launch. I took the body off the car, removed the rubber body bushings and replaced them with steel spacers 1 inch thick.
I re-made all new body mount studs out of 3/8 rod and added mounting studs.
the car comes factory with 10 bolt down spots. 2 at the front clip, 4 at the firewall, 2 under the back seat and 2 at the end of the trunk.
If you look, you will see mount points at the floor down by the high beam switch, middle of the door sill top of the trunk ledge and middle of the trunk floor. put spacers and studs in those locations and bolt the body down hard to the frame..
Last thing I did was take the rear trailing arms out and burned the bushings out and replaced them with delrin plastic inserts.
I haven't found anyone that makes polyeuro. bushings for them so I made my own again. also I took the panhard (track rod) out and re fab'd it out of tube with large spherical joints that were adjustable for length.
I realigned the rear axle to be perfectly centered with the frame, axle flange to side of frame rail distance.
and then had the front end realigned to the new rear end alignment.
Made a HUGE difference in straight line launches..
