Hub City Dragway

Well, I am at Hubb City dragway today. It's kind of spooky being here, I looked at the sign where the accident took place. You can tell where they have worked on it and part of the sign is still hanging down. Very nice day but very few cars here. They just came over the pa and stated they would be racing 1/8 mile only and they are having discussion if this will now be a 1/8 mile track from now on. They also stated anyone that keeps on the gas past the 1/8 mile will be asked to leave the property

They also have announced that they will start checking for safety equipment in the future and would allow the racers time to get the safety items in place, there would be no more tolerance for cars that don't meet the safety regs for there speed..

Just wanted to add they are flying there flags here at half mast. It does seem the racetrack officials are being respectful even though some racers I have talked to don't seem as concerned.

Hope this didn't have something to do with it. Last time (10+ years ago) I was at Hub there wasn't any tech either..... I didn't like it one bit, but it was the first time out with a new combo and they were the only ones open..... It's still an individual's decision to run down that track or not. You're responsible for your everything, not just your dial in!

From the looks of it in the pics I can seem to see a cage and the 6x6 plate that welds to the floor. Probably just a freak accident.

How far away are the signs at an NHRA or IHRA sanctioned facility?

Not sure but there not 2ft from a guardrail that wouldn't hardly come up to your knees. From what I can tell this is another one of those backwood tracks that you didn't need any safety items till now.

Jezz there out here doing burnouts in the pit area with kids all around. Cars and bike running through here gassing it going well over the speed limit. The management of this track has to be poor. Two motercycles just raced through the quarter mile let's see if they are now asked to leave.

The guys right beside me just rolled them a big joint and smoking it, with there kids around. LOL this place is wild for sure  Guess it's not quite as bad as when I went to Albuquerque, NM they was a couple having sex in the station wagon and smoking dope while there kids were sitting on top of the car

I hate going down there because of those reasons stated. But it is or "was" the only 1/4 track around. I don't know if there was any shootings this year on the big "Fat Tuesday" race or not. Years past there has been.

Like I have been told before. The owners could careless about anything else throughout the year besides Their "Fat Tuesday" Race. They quit bracket racing. So anyone who had a Bracket car now has to drive 2 hrs up here to Battlefield.

Pro-mods use to come to the track. I have been told that they will not come back now after their last race in 2005.

no matter what track you are at if the driver keeps getting on and off the gas in a fast door car, they will crash. Rule number 1 if you foot comes off the gas keep it off.

Chris, if your talking about a bracket race then most times you would be correct but in heads up racing I have seen a number of races won in FFW and NHRA where they get back into it and win the race and that is just the truth.

Over the years I have seen a lot of good cars and drivers lose to the win at all cost mind set. Just because one see's a TF or a FC driver pedel the car several times dosen't mean a door car can the same. A door car needs more time to get strighten back out, then some one could get back in it. As far as drivers at an FFW they race for the most part on the same tracks as NHRA does. These track are a lot wider.
Around here even the pro-mod drivers will not get back into it. When one is running 3.90-4.10 you don't have a lot of time
I think what you see on tv with the fuel cars has made it was down to the local racers. A door car and fuel car are very different. Its not very often you will see a driver of a pro-stock car pedel a car.
That is my 2 cents.
