Opinions on "skinning" a factory hood

I have access to some very large sections of fiberglass mat from a local boat manufacturer, provided I support the hood properly and brace it here and there properly do you think I'd have very good luck with it?

Provided it works, it would be less expesive than doing a full glass hood and maybe alot stronger than one too. Any opinions or experience on this? Thanks for your help.

I skinned one on a 70 mustang and used light 1/2" square metal tubing to support it. I even welded the cal to the hood . I believe the fiberglass would work if the bracing was large enough. Were you going to use some large pieces of foam to lay the mat on?

update

I removed about ten pounds from the front of the hood and repainted it with some spray paint, there are a few spots that I'll have to fix but it's a place to start. I'll see how this works berfore doing anything more radical.
