What are these holes.? And they're not in the C9VE's

Top head is C9VE, the bottom one is DOOE-R Cobra Jet, I'm wondering if the hole that is circled in yellow is a water passage. If it is my gaskets will not work.

I think its just a heat cross over for the choke on the carb. this would match the manifold and just provide hot air to a small pipe.

I agree.
I run the D0OE-R on my engine, and the Felpro SCJ gaskets work fine.

I looked I don't seem to have a volume 2 ford manual that goes back that far.

From the picture it looks like the hole dead ends in the head. If that is the case I would have to agree that is a port for the choke tube.
