SWEET. I cant wait to see that wild thing finished.

1990 GT, 347 / 76mm turbo setup OUT AND GONE!

New setup going in. Dove headed 545 with a plate kit to 400, progressive, Th400 etc. etc. etc.

Hey, Byron, I thought my friend in South Carolina was the only one crazy enough to put a 460 in a Cobra. Guess there's two of you (not for long, though. He says the 460 is too much for him in the car, so he's looking for a replacement).

I wanted to ask you about the paint, too. Can I ask what color and what brand it is? It looks great, and I am thinking of a similar color for my '66 Galaxie.

Yes...

That's Ford T8 Tungsten. Same color they put on the 2006 Ford GT and I believe Saleen put it on either a Mustang or the S7; or maybe both. It's a nice dark silver with subtle color-shift properties. I wanted the car to be reminicent of the original aluminum-bodied cars, but with a more modern look. I think I did OK with the choice; I'm pleased with the result.

Yes, there's just a wee little motor going in this car...just a 435" ported blue thunder headed 385 series with a victor, efi, blower cam, and a blower pullied for about 12-14 PSI. LOL. It was already registered, legal, and driven before I took it to the body shop. I can't wait to get it back. Pro-Stock burnout starting at 80mph on the freeway in 3rd/4th gear. It's definitely not under powered.

Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement...7yrs in the making now; I started with an old dusty 1982 frame and shell.

Next week they'll be putting the shell back on the chassis, fiting the windshield, roll-bar, doors, trunk, hood, grills...all the little crap. With some luck, I'll have her back by June.

Light Car

The FFR is a real light car compared to mine. Mine is a old 82 Kellison chassis...also known as a West Coast Cobra. 96" wheel base, all square tubing (and lots of it), 9" rear, 1/4" thick glass everywhere, and in my lightened configuration (aluminum heads, viper trans instead of C6), it still weighed it at 2910 complete.

I don't know how the FFR did with handling that engine; but it seems to handle 400hp supercharged small block combos well. I've never driven a big block FFR. My car handles this engine well. It feels very stable at launch and at speed. The only improvement I see in the future is the addition of a watts link in the rear to keep it located when I road track the car.

Ah! I can't remember what the weight of my friend's car was, but I don't remember it being above 2700. I do remember my friend talking about how light his car was: aluminum all over the place. I can see why the handling on his car may leave him a little "jittery" now!

Fortunately mine seems to have predictable throttle-oversteer behavior. I've driven other cobras that aren't nearly as consistant in that mode. I'm suprised that this old 1982 suspension is working as well as it is. All it is is Mustang II up front and non-parallel 4-link live axel in the rear. Yet, it stays flat and predictable in the corners even with the rear tires on fire. And, when I took it in for bumpsteer/alignment, I was told it was already dead on in regard to bumpsteer. Luck? Must be, because I gave it no attention during the build at all...I figured I'd work it out later.

Vortech V7-JT with some modifications for high rpm over-spec abuse. Some friends at Vortech set me up. It moves over 1600CFM.

Fun!

The larger impeller superchargers had bigger problems, especially in the early days. All the big ones blew up when spun aggressively...XX, XXX, Novi 3000, and the big ATIs. Things have improved.

The V7 is a smaller impeller unit; about like a Novi 2000...but this one is set up to go 55K+ RPM. Vortech has shipped thousands, if not tens of thousands of units like this with tremendous success. I've tuned several hundred and witnessed units turn 200K+ street miles without failure. I'm not worried about it.

That said, I am cautious. I have a stainless mesh screen between my intake elbow and intake manifold. If it sh**s the bed, it'll make a mess, but won't take the motor with it.
