How much weight saved with lexan hatch window in mustang?

Has anyone weighed a fox body mustang hatch window compared to lexan? I was looking into getting a glass hatch with lexan but I have heard that the fiberglass hatches don't fit too good and they are expensive. It seems like just installing lexan into a steel hatch would save a lot of wieght.

Thanks

Derek

You will probably save about 50 lbs. or more with a fiberglass hatch and lexan window. I haven't weigh them but believe me thay are quite heavy. I have bought three so far from different companys and the best is from HO Fibertrends.

50 pounds for just the lexan? or do you mean the with a glass hatch also? I just looked at ho fibertrends website and their hatches do look good. They are a little cheaper than others also. I want a bolt on also because I have to lift the hatch to fill the fuel cell.

Hatch and lexan. I just edited my post to reflect that. That's a hugh piece of glass, so it wouldn't surprise me if it weighs about 15 or 20 lbs.

One thing I forgot to mention about the fiberglass hatches, you cannot use the air struts to help hold them open. It will cause them to bow when it is shut.

We use a telescoping pole my nephew found somewhere that you can twist and lock the length. If someone made a strut with lower pressure that woud be great, but as far as I know, no one does. Remember those things are made to hold up a very heavy steel and glass hatch.
