Think of a Bronco of that same year with the roof cut off.

Yeah, it is about as strange as the Mexican exported, Bronco.... ah, well... they weren't Broncos, but they looked like a Suburban, but they were the 73-78 body style. Never sold in the US as far as I know, but exported to Mexico. Have you seen them?

that truck is nothing more then a converted to convertible 1/2 ton 4x4

the F140 stands for 4x4

the convertible top was bought as a kit and any autobody shop could do the conversion this was popular in the 80s

the people selling it are so misinformed it is sad

picture below is my 1/2 ton 78 4x4 notice the F140 not so rare now is it

picture of one of my 2wd 1/2 ton notice the F150

the truck looks like a pretty clean truck overall though

the real question of whether it's factory or not would be to decipher the body code on the door tag. that should identify if it was indeed a factory convertible or not.

f140

i was a Ford dealer from 1972 to 1986 and if your build sheet shows this this was SENT OFF to have done and not Ford produce item. if you have the money they will do what they can but IT'S not production. so it's not RARE. It's just like if you want a different paint job they will take it off production and do it but isn't listed in codes. something that can be modifed simple they will do. So this would be easy to send to a shop down the road and have done and brought back to finish production but was most likely done after for something like this==GODWIN FORD,INC=WINNSBORO,SOUTH CAROLINA==Fastfrog==

I asked him to send me the build sheets & window sticker got no response.
F140 was Fords vin coding for 4X4. 2wheel drive or super cab used different numbers.
