More space is always more gooder 8) . Is the increasing cost of steel why they used wood vs steel for the frame? How big is the shop going to be? If that's a 10' wide over head door on the front then I'm guessing maybe a 25 x 30 shop?

How hard is it for them to pour the concrete floor after the walls are up? I think that's how they did my shop because my main wall uprights are buried in the concrete pad instead of the uprights being bolted to the pad.

Don't forget the flat screen TV & the beer fridge  .

cheap..

30X48  And it's too small already. 12 foot wide door and 1 walk door high enough for a 4 inch slab. It's wood because it's cheap.  Under 12 thousand and I don't lift a finger. That doesn't include the floor.

Lucky you. I an hoping to build a shop soon as well but it will be 40x60. I always thought that was too big but my uncle has one and after you get 3 cars in there it is full.

Did they put air craft cable on the ground tieing all the posts together? It really helps tie the building together. Also, don't forget to put poly under the concrete or else it will sweat in the spring and fall. Plus it makes it impossible to finish the floor.

For those who might not know a pole barn (like this) is cheaper to build than an all steel building but the life span is also less. One benefit is that if you live where there are hurricanes they tend to stand up better to high wind loads. My friend has one that withstood hurricane Rita two years ago just fine and he was right in the action so to speak.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid-in-sideways, totally worn out, shouting.."holy crap.... what a ride!"

Thanks

Thanks for the comments guys.

Casey, yes, they are 6x6's but they are not surrounded by concrete. They are sitting on a round concrete "cookie" at the bottom. We talked about concrete, but I read that it could attack the wood. :?: They are 3 feet in the ground so I don't think they'll go anywhere. Fingers crossed. And I'm having the roof insulated so we can do the walls later and add AC. Those are the big rolls in the last picture.

Rick, we talked about doing it ourselves, but this deal was tough to pass up for a lazy guy like me.

Thanks for the heads up about the cable Jay. I'll look into it if it isn't too late. And until we build a house, we are staying in a trailer. (Gotta have priorities, garage first ! ) So, if we have a big storm, guess where we are going with the dogs and cats and goldfish?

And thanks Jeff and Fox for the kind words.

I think the builders went back to PA for the weekend, so I may not see the finished product till Monday or Tuesday. So far, the craftsmanship looks topnotch. www.nationalbarn.com is the builder, and I'll give y'all a final rating when they finish it.

Thanks to tubais and 36 truck too for your comments.
