I use the MSD knock sensor on my dyno, it works good and it's easy to use. You just screw it into the block or cylinder head somewhere. Then with the engine running you simply adjust it so that it'll ignore the mechanical noise of your particular engine. Now when detonation happens it'll light up like crazy, works. You can test it too by tapping on the engine somewhere and observing the meter.
