2.3 turbos are fun. I hae a dream about putting one in an early Mustang. Why? Just because...

Also thinking about mileage for a daily driver for my son. More power than a 6, better mileage as well... Lighter, lots of good reasons. Just don't like the sound.

The mileage ain't that good, I'm getting around 20 per gallon at freeway
speeds, and no, it isn't running badly...

I've been playing with 2.3's for a long time. They are more expensive than 460's
The stock cylinder heads are junk....cracked. Try finding one thats not cracked!!
They will make a lot of power with the turbo's, but the reliability is just not there.

As the world turns...I get more dizzy!

Yeah a guy by the name of John Huber races one in Open Comp NMRA. I ran him the first time ever at a NMRA BG first round. I saw the car had 4-banger written on the side of it and thought hey this guy will actually be living before me and my 351W running 10.70's. Boy was I surprised when my light flashed first and I had to let go of the button at the top end he flew by me like I had thrown out a anchor. Ran a 9.73 I believe. He ran it in true street this year and was number one with a low 9 not sure if he won it or if something happened to the car. But the thing sounded like some old ladies street car. Those things can run!

1993 Mustang LX 466 CI with Kaase CJ heads. Just hoping to make a full pass. Best time 6.32 110 mph.

My buddy is addicted to em. He had one running low 12s in a Ranger with a stick. My 93 N/A 2.3 seems OK. I admit I was suprised at just how spendy a simple rebuild can be but you can buy whole running engines for $50 all day long. Blow it up, swap it out, repeat as necessary.

Its funny, my 70 Torino Wagon with a carbed roller 5.0/AOD got 20mpg
My 2.3 Stang N/A gets 22mpg
My buddy's 16psi Turbo XR4Ti gets 22mpg.

That 2.3 is a freakin pile. I suspect the 5.0 in my garage will end up in it eventually.

Hey Phil!

Did some research on 'em. Ya need to add the Cummins Turbo. You car get 25lbs of boost from it. Megasquirt to handle the computer options.

Best head is the 8 spark plug one. There are cheap add on intake and exhaust manifolds.

Pretty easy 450Hp from the 2.3..

The 2.3 is 70lbs lighter then the stock 302 in cast iron.. I would think adding the turbo would also add some weight.

450Hp in a 2300lbs Mustang would rule!

I have a rust free 1984 4 cly Capri... We have a bunch of Thunderbird turbo motors.. Humm..

Laters!

Designed primarily for 6 cylinder engines of 5.0 to 6.5 litre capacity, the Holset HX35 turbocharger has higher flow aerodynamics capable of providing up to 0.46 kg/s at 3.0:1 pressure ratio.

The Holset HY35 has a smaller hot side than the HX35, it was installed on automatic trans 5.9L cummins. The HY also has a slightly smaller compressor wheel.

If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers.

There is guy here who has one in his Mustang notchback. Its best run is 11.3 at 122. Completely stock short block out of the wrecker. He drives it too. I made a pull with him with my Comet, I left on him and he reeled me in by top of second, and then there was no hope of catching him. My cars best is a 11.2.

Makes me think of yanking the V8 and build a cheap 2.3.

The guy mentioned above Jon Huber is a buddy of mine and we go to the track and both race in Open Comp at a lot of the NMRA races. His car has done a best of 8.90's and runs on DOT tires most of the time. He won several True Street events the last couple years and has more in the works for this year. Jon and his dad are some of the greatest guys you will ever meet and a blast to hang out with. The car is as clean as any show car you will ever see and runs like a bat out of hell besides. We are going to try and get him to bring it down to the Bash in April. The bad news is he will smoke a whole bunch of big block cars mine included!!!

Is Huber the guy who used to have the 2.3 Pinto that ran 13's on old tires?

cobrakid8: what did you finish with at that NMRA race? I did rather well myself (pat on the back to me) and we had dinner with Jon Huber and some of his friends/family that night.
