1 Pinto + 1 turbo + a little methanol

Some of you may remember I have a Pinto with a turbo'd 2.3 in it thats kinda built a little bit. I took it out last night for quick spin around the block.
I put the methanol injection kit on it, but had never tried it before, so I let it warm up then I went down the street. I made a U turn and decided to 'get on it'
Hehe...I rolled into it gently in 1st gear, up to about 40-45 MPH, then I clicked 2nd at the same time I stabbed the throttle....MAN O MAN!!
That boost came on, and that methanol came on and at a 40-45 MPH roll, it broke loose, frying the tires and fishtailing sidways. It felt like 600 horsepower!!

Heres some basic specs on the car so you can get an idea of it>>
1972 Pinto Runabout...2300LBS.
2.3 4cyl. engine.
Esslinger aluminum head...ported
Esslinger #2277 turbo cam
Ported upper/lower intake with aftermarket injectors and V8 5.0 throttle body.
Methanol injection kit.
NOS nitrous injection kit(not in use right now)
Wieseco forged pistons
Crower Sportsman rods
ARP main/head studs
Stinger large tube header
T04/57 Turbo
3" inch exhaust
C4 trans with manual valvebody
8" inch rear with 4.11 Traction Lock.

This combo already dyno'd at 421 HP at the wheels, and that was before the addition of methanol :!:
It still needs some fine tuning to work out several drivability issues (its a street car, not a race car), and it needs to bring the air/fuel ratio closer to optimum, but all in all, it was a pretty wild ride!!

As the world turns...I get more dizzy!

Awesome

I had a 79 pinto with a 2.3L t-bird motor in it with a T3/T4 hybrid.

Loved that thing; nice to see yours.

Is the alcohol injection to mostly to help curb detonation with the increased cylinder pressure from the boost? Or does the car run only on alcohol?

Very nice car and great rear wheel horsepower numbers.

It should be pretty fast in the 1/4 mile with that much horsepower at the rear tires and only 2,300 lbs.

Later Mark.

It runs on regular gas....well, I use VP 110 in it right now just to be safe!!
The methanol comes on at a preset boost pressure and it ramps up to full delivery with the rising boost.
The methanol is like a super intercooler, and it allows more timing under boost without detonation.
My goal is to make this thing run 10.50's or better...but it probably wont

Its been sitting for a year because I just got so fed up with it. Im still not so sure if I trust it, but it was a fun ride the other night!
