WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court said on Thursday that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first major pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history.
The court's 5-4 ruling strikes down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns as incompatible with gun rights under the Second Amendment. The decision goes further than even the Bush administration wanted, but probably leaves most firearms laws intact.
The court had not conclusively interpreted the Second Amendment since its ratification in 1791. The amendment reads: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
As soon as I read this on the news I felt like going outside and shooting something!! Finally, I get the feeling that there just might be some wise people left in the government.

You must have read my mind. I am really losing faith in my government, but this rekindled a little faith. Hopefully it will be a more common thing.
As good as this was it is unbelievable (at least to me) that it was a 5 to 4 vote. 4 'judges' almost rewrote our constitution!!!! How in the HELL can this be?? :x

i sure am glad it came out this way . i really didnt want to be an "outlaw" again.
but seriously we need to keep making our voice heard it was a 5/4 decision and thats too close .
it will come up again and the next judges appointed to the court can either make it or break for for us that believe in our 2nd amendment rights.
think carefully about who you vote for this november.........ron
The Socialist Republic of Kaliphornya will challenge this for sure!!
I am glad they had some common sense on this issue...esspecially considering that they just ruled that child rapists cannot face the death penalty
I still dont have any faith in them, they could reverse this decision at any time.
Just when you think the Courts are never going to get it right!
I'm gonna break out the AR and the FAL and burn some Constitutionally protected ammo!!!

Thank god someone is going to reel those goons in. He runs this state!!!! He is the only reason we don't have concealed carry like most the rest of the US.
what do you think would have happened if the decision went the other way? I think it would have been bad... revolts, etc.
They can have my guns... bullets first of course :x
