Ignition problem (kinda long)

We have been having a problem with our drag car cutting out as soon as the trans brake is released, sounds like a fuel problem so we checked everything out, thought I had a fuel line plugged. Friday night we went to test and we have'nt fixed the problem, the second pass the car broke a rocker arm and pushed a lifter out of the bore losing oil press. I shut the car down and nothing was hurt. Now we have fixed the lifter and have a new rocker arm ready to go but when we put the distributor back in and try to time the car we are getting a spark every once in a while, and when it don't spark I can hear something in the distributor(MSD pro billet), so I put the duraspark in and get the same thing, I have also changed the coil, a new wire on #1 nothing helps. should'nt we get a spark every time we turn the distributor. I would think the MSD box would just quit. Anyone have any suggestions they would be appreciated.

Sounds like you may have a bad magnetic pick up or a broken paddle on the reluctor inside the distributor.
