Aged Tires Sold As New: Safety Hazard?

YOU WILL WANT TO WATCH THIS. THIS IS AN INTERESTING VIDEO THAT I RECEIVED AND AFTER WATCHING I HAD TO WATCH TO THE END - LEARNED A LOT ABOUT WHEN I BUY A TIRE FOR MY CAR. THE GARAGE OR WHEREVER WILL BE SURPRISED WHEN I TELL THEM I WANT TO SEE THE TIRE 'CODE'.

Very important to take the time to look at this video on tires and share with others.
Note: There is a short commercial that comes on prior to the story on the tires.

Good information to have, and definitely everyone should check before buying any tires. I don't understand why 20/20 has to keep stressing how "cryptic" the code is. It's not cryptic at all and it's clearly posted on the tire. Buyer beware, research your tire purchases and make sure you are getting a quality and safe product and a fair deal. No need to demonize the tire industry, in my opinion.

More drama than information. If your buying used tires, or tires at the local gas station, then there could be a big issue. If your buying tires from a tire distributor, typically they/we will just about give the tire away once it has sat on shelf for 3 years.

Tire life will depend on where its parked, how its driven etc.. there is no magic number, better quality tires can last well past 10 years after manufacture date, if stored out of direct sunlight (on or off vehicle) and not over heated.

There are tires that come apart in less than 3 years.

Industry average is start suggesting people replace 5 year old tires, and if there is a tire that is in the 8-10 year window, suggest replacement on time.
